Ledger.com Start® | Official Getting Started Guide*

Welcome to the official Ledger.com Start® guide — your first step toward securely managing your crypto assets with confidence. This setup guide helps you initialize your device, install Ledger Live, and learn best practices for safety and recovery.

Step 1 — Unbox and Verify Your Ledger Device

Before connecting your Ledger, inspect the packaging for any signs of tampering. Authentic devices are sealed and delivered directly from Ledger or authorized resellers. Never use a pre-initialized or second-hand device. Each Ledger wallet should ask you to create a new PIN and recovery phrase upon setup.

Step 2 — Visit the Official Setup Page

On your computer, open your browser and go to Ledger.com/start. This is the only official page for setup. From here, you can download the latest version of Ledger Live — the companion app for managing your coins and verifying firmware updates.

Step 3 — Install Ledger Live and Initialize Your Wallet

Download Ledger Live for your operating system (Windows, macOS, or Linux). Once installed, launch the app and select “Set up as new device” or “Restore from recovery phrase”. The software will guide you step-by-step through pairing your device, confirming addresses, and securing your wallet.

Step 4 — Back Up Your Recovery Phrase

Your recovery phrase is your key to your funds. Write it down exactly as shown on your device screen, in the same order, and store it safely offline. Do not take photos or store it in any digital format. For added durability, consider using a metal backup to prevent fire or water damage.

Step 5 — Update Firmware and Stay Secure

Ledger regularly releases firmware updates to enhance security and compatibility. Ledger Live will alert you when updates are available. Only install updates from within the official app, and never follow third-party instructions. After updating, verify that your device still matches your recorded addresses before transacting.
